Garbage & Recycling Program

The Town of Chester has contracted with Interstate Waste Services, for the collection of household garbage, recycling, and bulk materials, as mandated and regulated by the County of Orange.

Your scheduled pickup for garbage collection and recycling are on the same day each week. Place your trash and recyclables out the night before. Garbage must be in the containers provided by IWS. Please place all toters BEHIND THE CURB. There should be nothing in the roadway that would impede or delay the removal of snow or ice. Each residence that pays for garbage in their property taxes is provided with one garbage and one recycling toter. If any additional toters are needed, they may be purchased through Interstate Waste at 845-572-3321.

PLEASE NOTE: Garbage and recycling will be delayed by one day following an observed holiday. There will be no service interruption on holidays not listed.

BULK ITEMS
Bulk pickup begins April 1st through November 30th. Please contact IWS at 845-572-3321 to schedule your collection. Please place all bulk items out the night before scheduled pickup

NO CONSTRUCTION AND DEMOLITION (C&D) DEBRIS AND NO YARD WASTE.
Absolutely no construction or demolition debris is allowed in the garbage or recycling toter. For information on the disposal of leaves or brush Village of Chester residents can call 469-2388 and Town of Chester residents can call 469-7000 x322. Lawn clipping are not accepted by IWS or by the Town or Village.

TIRE RECYCLING:
Tires (rims off) will be collected at the Town Highway Garage, 77 Laroe Road, Monday-Friday, 7:30 am to 3:30 pm, the second and third weeks of May each year.

HAZARDOUS MATERIALS:
The following are some of the items considered hazardous and not picked up with regular household refuse: adhesives, aerosol cans, automotive fuels and fluids, corrosives/cleaners, dental amalgam, fluorescent light tubes, gasoline, mercury, oil based paint (no latex/acrylic), pesticides/herbicides, photographic chemicals, pool chemicals, solvents/thinners, varnishes, shellacs, stains, paint thinners, solvents and waste oil. ELECTRONICS WASTE:
The following are some items considered electronics waste and are not picked up with regular household refuse: computers, laptop computers, tablets, cellular phones, keyboards, computer mice, speakers, scanners, gaming controllers, monitors, printers, scanners, and television sets. Interstate Waste Services provides Chester residents E-Recycling services. You must bring your electronics to 89 Black Meadow Road, Chester, NY. The facility is open Monday-Friday from 8am to 4pm. Chester residency ID is required. Please call 845-572-3321 for an appointment.
